Frequently asked questions.

About CTARS, virtual surgical planning, patient-specific implants and how to send us a case.

What does CTARS do?
CTARS (Center for Technology-Assisted Reconstructive Surgery) is an exclusive healthcare 3D design and printing company with a core focus on the cranio-maxillofacial region. CTARS is India’s first and only 3D design and print unit for VSP (virtual surgical planning) and 3D splint fabrication for orthognathic surgery (correction of the jaws). We design and print anatomic models, patient-specific implants (PSI), TMJ total joint replacements, surgical cutting guides, implant positioning guides, orthognathic splints and clear aligners.
Who works with CTARS?
CTARS is “For Surgeons, By Surgeons” — a group of maxillofacial, plastic, oncologic, orthopaedic, neuro and dental surgeons, working with engineers and designers under one roof. Over 500 doctors and surgeons and more than 65 academic institutions and hospitals have worked with us.
What is virtual surgical planning (VSP)?
From the patient’s CT or MRI, surgeons and engineers build a 3D model of the anatomy and plan — or rehearse — the procedure in software before surgery. The plan is then carried into the operating room with patient-specific guides, splints or implants. CTARS has delivered more than 2,600 virtual surgical plans.
What are your patient-specific implants made of?
Our customised implants are printed in titanium and PEEK, locally and internationally. You choose the implantation approach — shape, spacing, fixation and material — and we take care of the design and the production method.
How is a patient-specific implant made?
Five steps: imaging (CT or MRI), virtual planning with the surgeon, design to the patient’s anatomy, manufacturing by 3D printing or CNC machining, and surgery.
How do I send patient scans to CTARS?
Email the imaging files (CT or MRI data) to info@ctars.in, or call +91 88385 69080 and our team will tell you the easiest way to transfer large files.
What are Bitemarks orthognathic splints made of?
The orthognathic splints we produce are printed with 3D polyjet technology, from a virtual plan of the two-jaw movements.
Do you replace the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)?
Yes. CTARS is one of the few companies in the world specialised in total joint replacement for the TMJ region — a custom TJR designed for one patient’s anatomy.
Do you work outside India?
Yes — CTARS has an international and pan-India presence, including CTARS Africa, led by Dr. Lazarus Pillay.
Do you make clear aligners?
Yes. CTARS Align clear aligners are transparent, custom-made for each patient, removable for easy cleaning and effective for mild to moderate issues.
