The virtual plan, on the bone
A cutting guide in VSP is a customised surgical tool designed on a patient’s specific anatomy, as visualised through advanced imaging such as CT or MRI. In maxillofacial surgery it ensures precise and accurate cuts in bone structures.
It serves as a template that guides the surgeon during the actual surgery, permitting incisions, resections or osteotomies with a high level of accuracy. Intra-operatively the guide is positioned on the patient’s anatomy, aligned with the pre-planned locations for the bone cuts, and the surgeon uses it to execute the VSP accurately.
- Increased surgical precision
- Reduced operating time
- Potentially improved post-operative outcomes
- Better fit of implants or prosthetics that are part of the plan
